Fracture Care: The Importance of Early Treatment

Why timely fracture management is critical for optimal healing and preventing long-term complications.

Fracture Care: The Importance of Early Treatment

A bone fracture is a serious injury that requires prompt medical attention. Delayed or inadequate treatment can lead to malunion (healing in the wrong position), non-union (failure to heal), infection, and permanent disability.

Modern fracture management has evolved significantly. Dr. Satish Reddy employs a range of techniques depending on the fracture type and location — from closed reduction and casting for stable fractures to ORIF (open reduction and internal fixation) with plates and screws for displaced fractures.

For long bone fractures, intramedullary nailing provides excellent stability while allowing early weight-bearing. Complex periarticular fractures may require specialised approaches including external fixation or the Ilizarov ring fixator.

The key principles of fracture care are: accurate reduction (alignment), stable fixation, and early mobilisation. These principles, combined with structured physiotherapy, give the best chance of full functional recovery.

If you or a family member has sustained a fracture, seek specialist orthopaedic evaluation as early as possible. Early treatment consistently produces better outcomes.
